I’ve been getting messages asking when I’m going to post another snippet from THE OTHER HALF OF THE GRAVE. I was going to do it last Friday, but on Wednesday, my sister told me that our Dad had covid and was being hospitalized. So, obviously, I wasn’t in the mood to do a fun snippet. However, I’m so relieved to say that my father’s case was mild and he’s now home. Yes, he was vaccinated and boosted, but to say that my father has “co-morbidities” that put him at higher risk for complications is a vast understatement.
My sisters and I have a dark sense of humor, so we’ve joked that since her passing, all my father’s near-death health-related incidents have been Mom trying to get Dad back. Mom died six years ago, and since then, Dad’s survived three kinds of cancer, a triple bypass, sepsis, pulmonary failure, a stroke, internal bleeding, a broken neck, TWO resuscitations (one while I was on the phone with him, so I actually heard the nurse say “Call the code, he’s crashing!”), and now he’s survived Covid. Mom always said that she never wanted to be without Dad, so in more moments of dark humor, I can just imagine Mom saying “Come on, God, can’t You get him up here?” and the Lord replying “Lady, I’ve TRIED.” 😉
*grins* Better luck next time, Mom! For now, we get to keep Dad a little longer.
So, with lots of relief, I’m popping up to say that I’ll post a new snippet, possibly even a new chapter, this Friday. Since I’m in a good mood, maybe there’ll even be a giveaway, too.
In closing, here’s me with my Dad almost two months ago on his 80th birthday. I had to get up at 3am in order to fly in to see him, but his smile made it all worth it.

Oh WOW! Lol! I’m glad your dad is doing well and you have more time to spend with him. I wish mine was still here. He used to swear my mom was trying to kill him lol! He had the most random of accidents! (they really were not her fault) but he was convinced she was wishing bad things on him ! 😁

As a nurse it’s always good to hear the stories of people who get to go home and how happy their families are to have them there! It’s been a rough few years in healthcare but I’m glad your dad is doing better 🙂

Thank you for sharing about your dad! What a blessing to still have him with you, and what a fighter he is! We LOVE your snippets AND it’s a good reminder to us that you are not just a writing machine, cranking out stories. You have ups and downs like the rest of us.
