My friend and fellow author Ilona Andrews mentioned on her blog today that my cover for The Beautiful Ashes doesn’t hint at any of the action in the book (spoiler alert to anyone who hasn’t read my books: there’s ALWAYS action in them. In fact, I should make a drinking game out of how many people lose their heads per story, but that’s another blog topic ;)) Anyway, Ilona’s already read The Beautiful Ashes because she’s one of my regular critique partners, and when some of her readers agreed that the cover only portrayed the romance element (spoiler alert 2: all my books have THAT, too :)) Ilona emailed me and said “Give me an action scene snippet so I can prove to everyone that I’m right!” I complied since Ilona’s a little scary, heh.
So here’s the scene I hadn’t intended to post yet, if you’re interested. It takes place a few chapters after the previous scene snippets (here and here, if you haven’t read them). By the way, mad props to Ilona for the creepy cloud graphic!

OMG I can not wait to read the rest! Jeaniene you never disappoint. Hopefully this will hold me over till Vlad’s final book comes out in January, but somehow I doubt it. Please NEVER stop writing, I don’t know what I would do! Enjoy the rest of your summer 🙂

I love each of your books and with each new series I love them more. How can you make each new series better then the last? Bones – Vlad – Jack – and now Adrian? I can’t wait!

Just read the 3rd snippet & I love it!! Can’t wait to read the book 🙂 And I’m soooo excited about you sharing the alternate Cat & Bones material!! You rock, Jeaniene!!! After reading your first Cat & Bones book I was hooked & knew I had to track down everything you’d published so far. Took a while, but you’re definitely worth it 😀 I also really appreciate how wonderful you are in sharing with your fans. You & Laurell K. Hamilton (also one of my top 5 favorite authors!) seem so down-to-Earth & awesome in sharing yourselves with your fans…it means more than I can say! I’m also anxiously awaiting our next ‘Vlad fix’ in January!! Thanks again, SOOOO much, from a fellow North Carolinian!!! Rock on!!!
