This past week has been busy, and while I tell myself that things will slow down soon, with the holidays almost here, I doubt it :). Last Thursday, I finished revisions on Once Burned and sent it off to my editor. Until I get the copyeditor’s change requests on it, I can say that I’m done, heh. On the same day, we had a friend come in from Florida to stay with us. He’d hoped to go skiing. Two days before he arrived, the chances of that seemed good because this was what it looked like:
But, once he arrived, he seemed to bring the Florida heat with him and all the snow melted. Eventually my husband found a slope a couple cities away where they made their own snow, so our friend did get to do a little skiing. He left for Florida today, so next on my To Do list is to get a Christmas tree and put up some decorations. I’m hoping for a white Christmas this year. I haven’t had one of those since I was ten.
Because of finishing revisions and then rushing to get the house ready for our guest, I neglected to mention a new release last week. On Tuesday, November 29th, Reckoning came out.
Description: In New Orleans, a pair of undead serial killers are about to turn Mardi Gras into a horror show—unless the immortal hitman Bones can hunt them down first. From Jeaniene Frost comes a thrilling prequel novella featuring characters from her New York Times bestselling Night Huntress series. Originally appeared in the anthology Unbound.
As stated above, Reckoning was originally published in print back in 2009 in the Unbound anthology. It’s still available in print (Unbound retails for around $7.99), but if you want to read it by itself in ebook form, it’s only $1.99. Why does the print version cost more? Because there are several stories in it, not just one. If you’re interested in reading Reckoning for $1.99, but you don’t have an ereader, you can still get it on your pc, laptop, phone, or other device. Details on how are here.
Reckoning was inspired when I went on a haunted walking tour of New Orleans in 2005 and heard about the infamous husband-and-wife serial killers, the LaLauries. Back then, I’d been shopping Halfway to the Grave, but hadn’t sold it yet. Still, while hearing about the heinous deeds of the LaLauries, I couldn’t help but think that, in my books, they would be exactly the type of evil characters that my bounty-hunting hero, Bones, would have taken a contract on.
Fast forward three years when I was invited to partcipate in a dark fantasy anthology. I knew I wanted to write something from Bones’s point of view, and I wanted it before he met Cat so I could give readers a glimpse of how he’d earned his badass reputation. It was also the perfect chance to utilize my twist on the chilling historical couple, the LaLauries. Since Reckoning is set in New Orleans, expect to see the voodoo queen Marie Laveau put in an appearance, too. You’ll also learn the reason behind Bones’s cryptic comment in Destined for an Early Grave about being banned from the city for several years. As a series timeline indicator, Reckoningtakes place right before Bones leaves for Ohio and meets Cat, so his next “hunt” gave him much more than he bargained for :). Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Sony, Kobo
Hope you enjoy!

I was wondering if Ian will have his own book?
Thanks:)
love your books!
Moosh says
I was wondering the same thing too… I can’t wait for her to write it 🙁
Jeaniene says
Ian would have to grow up more first. Right now, he refuses to quit being a tramp ;-).
Amanda says
Ian’s trampiness is exactly why I’d love to see him in his own book.
Shannon says
I think Ians trampiness is so sexy. I would love to see how you write a woman who can handle and maybe even tame him. I love all your characters though so until Ian grows up a little bit I will just keep anjoying those!

I almost bought the Reckoning then I realized I bought Unbound when it came out. 🙂
Have you had time to watch Walking Dead or Once Upon a Time? When are you gonna get within the 2-300 mile radius again?
Merry Christmas

Jeaniene says
Hey Vampy! I love Once Upon a Time. Walking Dead…couldn’t get into it. Maybe it was just my mood. I’ll probably try it again eventually. Have no idea when I’ll be in the area again, but if I am, I’ll let you know! 🙂
Merry Christmas back at you.

I was just reading One Grave at a Time again when a question hit me. How the hell does Denise see and here the ghosts?
susiq says
Have you read First Drop of Crimson? Great book and it will explain.
twiser says
Yes numerous times. She couldn’t see Fabian in it! But in the last 2 she sees, hears, and speaks to them. And in the creature descriptions from the extras it doesn’t have that as an ability she might have now.
Jeaniene says
This is one of those instances where I wish I could rewrite something in a book that’s already out. Because Denise’s powers became permanent at the end of FDOC, she SHOULD have been able to see ghosts since demons can. So, at the very end, I should have said that, or said that she was starting to see them since Denise is still growing into her new powers.
Sorry for the confusion. Bad author, no cookie!
