I’m still on blog hiatus while I work on copyedits for One Grave at a Time and try to finish The Bite Before Christmas anthology story, but I’m popping up to post about playlists. On a question for the Frost Fans release party (which is Sunday, March 27th starting at 8pm, and there will be giveaways!) I was asked whether I wrote to any specific songs. The answer is yes. In fact, before I start writing a new story, I’ll usually gather several songs first. Then, as the story progresses, I’ll add more to the playlist. Here I’ll pause to say that music tastes are very personal, so even if you like my books, you may hate what I listen to, and that’s fine. But for the curious, here’s what I listened to while I wrote One Grave at a Time, C&B #6.
.
Awakenings, Illusions of Bliss, Changes, Forgiveness, *Love Come, Out of Tune, Heartbreak, Don’t Give Up On Us, and Bring On The Wonder, by Sarah McLachlan (yes, I had been impatiently awaiting the new Laws of Illusion cd, why do you ask? ;)?.
Without Reason, Unsaid, and Some Trust, by The Fray
Life In Technicolor, Glass of Water, Rainy Day, Lost, and Now My Feet Won’t Touch The Ground, by Coldplay.
Ali In The Jungle, 1000 Years, and Deus Ex Machina, by The Hours.
Not Afraid, by Eminem.
Going Up, by Infant Sorrow.
Overcome, Rain, and A Thousand Faces, by Creed.
Brand New Start, by Alter Bridge
Ten Years, Broken Bones, and Far From Over, by Rev Theory.
Careless Whisper, by Seether.
Breakaway, by Kelly Clarkson.
Fall To Pieces, Alice, and Keep Holding On, by Avril Lavigne.
** The Rose March and Again, Again, Again, by Smashing Pumpkins.
This Is Me, by Demi Lovato.
Kick Ass, by Mika and Redone.
Make Me Wanna Die, by The Pretty Reckless.
You Are The True Protector, by John Rizzle (Legion soundtrack)
* There’s a scene with Cat and Bones over a corn field where I had this song on constant repeat while I wrote.
** Probably repeated this song the second most while writing. Don’t look for plot clues in that, there aren’t any. It’s just how it turned out.
.
And here’s what I’m listening to while I write the C&B antho story for The Bite Before Christmas. No, no Christmas songs yet. Maybe when I’m closer to the end of the story, heh. Oh, and I blame all the retro songs on recently becoming hooked on Supernatural (Team Dean all the way!).
Don’t Look Back, by Boston.
Surrender, by Cheap Trick.
Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, by Guns N Roses.
Carry on Wayward Son, by Kansas.
Silent Lucidity, by Queensryche.
You’re A Wolf and Wicked Blood, by Sea Wolf.
A Mirror Without and Juliet, by Royal Wood.
Fell On Black Days, by Soundgarden
Weighty Ghost and Search Party, by Wintersleep.
Bigger Than Us, Strangers, and Street Lights, by White Lies.
Diamond Eyes, by Shinedown.
I Will Not Bow, Fade Away, Give Me A Sign, Anthem Of The Angels, Into The Nothing, and Without You, by Breaking Benjamin.
Heavy and How Do You Love, by Collective Soul.
.
As for what I listened to while I wrote This Side of the Grave, well, tune into the release party on the 27th for that answer :).
Now, back to my keyboard…

I love a bunch of these songs, but the one that got me to smile? The Infant Sorrow song! It’s awesome you have that on there, that song is hilarious and rocking at the same time. Too funny. Love it!

I just loved your playlist and some of the songs for One Grave at a Time seem to convey so much emotions. Can’t wait for these books to come out!
Oh and I love Boston and Kansas, such classics. 🙂

I don’t watch Supernatural, but ironically I was just thinking about the song, Silent Lucidity just a few days ago. I was a really young child when it came out and for some reason I absolutely loved it and would sing it all the time.

Team Dean is the way to go! Great playlist.

Great songs! I love Supernatural too. My husband listens to the same kind of music as Dean, and it always makes me smile.
